1985
December – Colonial Penn releases unexpected policy cancellations to 23 counties.
1986
Counties, with the help of the Wisconsin Counties Association, begin to organize and consider a liability mutual insurance company.
1987
February 27 – WCA Board of Directors takes action to study the needs and feasibility of creating a county held mutual insurance company.
August 26 – 33 pioneer counties vote unanimously to proceed with the creation of an insurance mutual. Initial 12-member Board of Directors selected.
November 4 – Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation Incorporated after OCI approval.
1988
January 1 – Coverage begins with 24-member counties.
1995
County Mutual reduced rates in response to tort reform.
1996
Company received approval to convert to an assessable mutual to a non-assessable mutual insurer.
1997
Excess workers compensation line added.
1998
Company begins providing insurance to other local unites of government in addition to counties.
Owner Direct Insurance Program started for capital projects.
1999
Completed return of contributed capital.
2001
Company begins writing first dollar workers’ compensation insurance after companies non-renew counties.
2002
Nursing home liability line added.
Community Insurance Corporation formed.
2004
Property insurance line added.
